The painting compoisition represents the earth plates shifting and coming apart.

The inspiration for this artwork came from an experience that I had with an earthquake which happened in Manhattan. It was small but it made the room that I was in sway. I didn't know whether to run out of the building in case it collapsed or not. Was it safer on the street or inside? What if the other buildings collapsed while I was walking down the street. The end result was that I left the building and walked to the nearest park and waited until it was safe to go back.
Earthquakes are the result of plate tectonics , or shifting plates in the crust of Earth, and quakes occur when the frictional stress of gliding plate boundaries builds and causes failure at a fault line. In an earthquake, elastic strain energy is released and waves radiate, shaking the ground.
